When you need to convert WebP back to JPG

WebP is excellent for the web, but not everything supports it yet. Some older image editors, print services, email clients, and mobile apps expect JPG or PNG. If you've downloaded an image from a website and it came as a WebP, converting to JPG is the quickest way to make it work everywhere.

Keep in mind that converting from WebP (a lossy format) to JPG (also lossy) means applying a second round of compression. At 85–95% JPG quality, the result is visually indistinguishable from the WebP original, but a tiny amount of quality is lost. If you need the closest possible match, use 95% quality.

Common questions

Why is my WebP file from a website larger than the JPG I got back?
WebP files are usually smaller than JPG at the same quality. When converting WebP to JPG, the JPG will often be larger than the WebP because JPG is a less efficient format.
What about WebP images with transparency?
JPG doesn't support transparency. Transparent areas will be filled with white. If you need to preserve transparency, convert to PNG instead.
Can I convert animated WebP?
Animated WebP is not currently supported — only the first frame is converted.
