When to convert PNG to JPG

PNG is a lossless format — every pixel is preserved exactly. That makes it ideal for screenshots, logos, and graphics with hard edges. But for photographs, PNG produces unnecessarily large files. A photo saved as PNG is typically 5–10× larger than the same photo as a high-quality JPG.

Convert to JPG when you're sharing photos, attaching images to emails, or uploading to social platforms. The visual difference at 85% quality is imperceptible, and the file size drop is dramatic. Keep PNG for anything with transparency, text, or sharp graphics where compression artefacts would be visible.

Common questions

What happens to transparent backgrounds?
JPG doesn't support transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with white during conversion.
Will I lose quality?
JPG is lossy. At 85–95% quality, the loss is invisible for photographs. For logos and graphics, you may prefer WebP (which supports transparency and lossless mode).
Can I convert multiple PNGs at once?
Yes. Drop as many files as you like. They convert in parallel and you can download all as a ZIP.
