JPG to WebP: a straightforward upgrade for web images

WebP was designed by Google specifically for the web. At the same visual quality as JPG, WebP produces files that are 30–40% smaller. For a website with dozens of product photos or a portfolio with high-resolution images, that difference in bandwidth and load time is significant.

The conversion is simple: every pixel is preserved in the same approximate quality range, just encoded more efficiently. The only practical limitation is compatibility with older software — if you need to open the file in an older image editor or print bureau workflow, JPG remains the safer choice.

How to convert JPG to WebP

  1. 01

    Drop your JPG files

Open the converter and drag your JPGs onto the dropzone. Multiple files are fine.

  2. 02

    Select WebP output

Click WebP in the format selector. Default quality is 80%.

  3. 03

    Adjust quality

Drag the quality slider. Lower gives smaller files; 80–85% is the sweet spot for photos.

  4. 04

    Download

Download files one by one or get all as a ZIP.

Common questions

How much smaller will my WebP files be?
Typically 30–40% smaller than JPG at equivalent quality. Results vary by image — photos with a lot of detail compress well; flat graphics see less benefit.
Will the images look different?
At 80% quality, WebP images look identical to JPG originals at normal screen resolution. At very high zoom you may notice slight differences in compression artefacts, but in a different pattern than JPG.
Can I convert batches of JPGs?
Yes. Drop multiple files and use Download all to get a ZIP.
